On September 15, 2017, the UBC CSCE sent a group of students to take part in Steel Day 2017. Many steel manufacturing and processing facilities open their doors during the day to show anybody who is interested an inside look at the different techniques and technologies they use to create their products.

The group of students from the UBC CSCE visited AJ Forsyth in Delta, BC, and Corrcoat in Surrey, BC. The AJ Forsyth facility featured CNC controlled plasma cutting machinery and steel rolling and forming, as well as an impressive stock of many standard structural steel products.

Corrcoat gave an inside look at the process of applying corrosion resistant coatings to a variety of products for many different purposes, and gave insight to the issues that can be faced when engineering in challenging environments.
